First, tell us about your business and anything special we should know about it or you.

I created Her Move after seven years of being a personal trainer for pre-and post natal women in New York City, and meeting many women who feel like their medical and hormonal needs are misunderstood. There is so much fear and confusion about how to continue exercising during fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum recovery, and I think all women deserve quality and affordable guidance. Her Move has grown into a platform with over 75+ workouts, educational content about the pelvic floor and anatomical changes, interviews with other women’s health experts, and so much more. All backed by hands on experience and tried and true methods. Plus, members get unlimited one on one support with me, Julia, so all your individual questions can be answered. This is more than just a workout program, it’s a community all about wellness for women.

Why do you feel a connection to your work?

So much of our society is tailored to men, and what works for them. In all my years of work I have seen how truly unique female anatomy is, especially during pregnancy and postpartum, and I believe women need and DESERVE highly specialized guidance that makes them feel understood and seen for the unique and incredible beings they are! Helping women feel empowered and informed to continue moving their body throughout all of it’s changes really lights my fire and inspires me to keep doing this work.

As a business owner, community is everything. In what ways do you serve your community and how has your community served you?

My entire mission is founded on accessibility and affordability – I do not believe knowledge about women’s bodies should be hidden behind a massive price tag. Through my Instagram page, events, free classes, and complimentary consultations I try to share as much info as a can without expectation of purchase. In return, I have been embraced by the robust women’s health community in NYC, including physical therapists, pelvic floor specialists, and nutritionists, that have sent so many women my way.

What advice would you give to young women who want to start a small business?

Who can you help? What is needed? How can you serve? When your mission is centered around improving the lives of others, instead of just yourself, you will always succeed, because you will always always always be fulfilled.

What women inspire you and why?

MOMs inspire me because they are literal superheroes who are capable of anything. The amount mothers juggle in one day, the amount they accomplish, the amount they hold space for others and keep everyone going – it’s astonishing. The mom that inspires me the most? Mine – because she does all that with an unbelievable amount of love in her heart.

What do you think are the most significant challenges for women business owners or women in leadership positions?

The expectations to manage it all. For women to be considered successful they have to do what men do, but 10x better. Self doubt. Fighting the constant narrative that women aren’t destined to be as successful as men, and doubting we are capable even when we are beyond capable.
