The final series interview for our closeup on the artists from the recent group art show in our gallery space at 351 Van Brunt, Compére Collective, which was called CONTINGENCIES is actually two artists collaborating under one name. You can view videos of their work on their web page here. There is also a brief interview at the bottom of this and a bio from the RU website below.
Since 2006, Marta Ângela and João Artur have been collaborating under the (shifting) name of Von Calhau! (also known as Calhau or von Calhau, among others). Recalling this elusive signature, the duo’s practice flows between different formats and media, being mostly recognized by their performances and installations that consist of sound and moving image.
