Arrested Protesters Demand Speed Cameras Stay Put

We were so impressed with Brad Lander when we heard this story about the protesters in Bay Ridge. Demanding that the speed cameras throughout NYC school zones be kept on, they stood in the road locking hands and blocking traffic. Only a few months ago two children were killed on 5th avenue and 9th street, one of the neighborhoods Lander’s represents, and the community is still feeling this great loss and only a week ago a 4 year old girl was fatally hit in Bushwick. Alongside Lander stood four women who had loved ones killed in car accidents. All five were arrested that day in front of Sen. Martin Golden’s office. Senator Golden, who failed to vote on the bill that would extend this camera pilot program, was not present. We realize how important this program is and wanted to spread the word about what’s happening in Albany and this incident 2 days ago.
