This Fall, the Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation (NEBHDCo) will be growing fish on Throop Avenue in Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn. The Farm will be a template for fish growing in an urban setting. Urban Aqua Farms is an indoor aquaponics facility and is the first in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood though there are several already in Brooklyn. Urban Aqua Farms will provide year round high quality, affordable fresh water fish and vegetables and supply food for those in need. It will supplement the healthy food supply for NEBHDCO’s Golden Harvest Client Choice Food Pantry which services 19.000 people each year.
On Thursday September 29th NEBHDCo will host a wine-tasting fundraiser at Throop Court, located at 378 Throop Avenue at Lafayette in Bed Stuy. Along with Cabbage Hill Farm, Oko Farms and Wine Ring, the fundraiser is part of the future goal of NEBHDCo to raise $300,000 for operating cost.
