The new private school in Red Hook called BASIS Independent Brooklyn at 556 Columbia Street will be holding tours throughout January. The school serves Pre-K to 10th graders for now but will serve up to 12th grade in the coming years. When plans were announced for this school it caused a controversy with some Red Hook residents not thinking the pricey private institute was right for the neighborhood. That hasn’t stopped parents from flocking to the school based on it’s good reputation and the fact that it’s half the price of many other elite private schools in the city, though tuition is still very high at over $23K per year.
