Landlord Hoping To Retain Tenants During COVID-19? We’ve Got Some Advice.

If you’re a Brooklyn landlord, chances are the economic fallout from COVID-19 has you worried about yourself and your tenants. And while the news may be changing hour by hour, we want to offer you some help when it comes to communicating with valued renters and retaining them during this period of upheaval.
That’s why we’ve written a letter you can use as a template to offer your residents an update, as well as something tangible during this crisis. In this sample letter, we’ve suggested a rent freeze for renewing a lease but please personalize for whatever makes sense for you. We are also offering alternate wording for situations where you’re hoping to retain long-term tenants. Please use whichever is applicable to each situation. We are not attorneys and can’t offer legal advice (reach out to your lawyer if this is something you need), but we hope this will at least get the ball rolling on proactive communication with your tenants.
If you need real estate-specific advice about something that isn’t covered here, please feel free to get in touch!
