The Hudson Valley, with it’s idyllic small towns overlooking the river, is only a 90 minute drive from us and a perfect day trip if you want to get away from the city and find some peace and quiet. There are plenty of options for all types of activities but for a general view of the towns and which towns are better for which activity click here.
We know that the article linked above goes into antique shopping and gallery visiting, which is definitely a big draw to these areas. If you are an art lover and haven’t been to Beacon to visit the Dia, then you need to put that on your list. Beacon is also a good place for foodies as they have several superb restaurants.
Hiking would be another interest that may draw nature enthusiasts and there are plenty of options on that front. One of our favorite hikes is Breakneck Ridge. Definitely not a hike for the faint of heart. It’s four hours long and more than half the time you’ll spend climbing upwards. Nothing that feels too steep or dangerous but bring lots of water because it’s strenuous. The downhill walk and then completion of this feat makes it totally worth it. Not to mention the gorgeous view you’ll get at the top!!
The last couple of activities mentioned aren’t exactly kid-friendly. Though we are sure you could find some hikes that may be suitable for children, we doubt you’d find an antique store or gallery they wouldn’t be bored out of their minds in. This last adventure, picking your own fruit and veggies at local farms, is perfect for all age groups! Many farms also have petting zoos, horseback riding and other fun entertainment for the young ones. Here is an extensive list on that.
