This Saturday, May 11th, is the Brooklyn PTA 5K Fun Run in Prospect Park. Every year in May Brooklyn school PTAs hold this fundraiser and all are welcome to participate. This is the 12th year of this event! You don’t need to have a child in school to support your local area elementary. Jogging, walking, strolling, and scooting are all acceptable during this 5K event! How it works is that you pick a school to support, register online or in person for an individual or a family, and then make your way around the park in a celebratory crowd of adults and kids for the entire loop. For hundreds of parents, teachers, students and supporters this event has become an annual rite of spring. Please join us this Saturday, May 11th in Prospect Park for our annual PTA 5k Fun Run fundraiser to celebrate our schools.
Last year, over 50 public schools took part in the Fun Run and we raised over $20,000 to support their Parent Teacher Associations, which work hard to build community for our kids and provide enriching programming. For 12 years now, the Brooklyn PTA 5K Fun Run has stood out for bringing schools together to raise money collectively and equitably. We do it together, across lines of race, class, and neighborhood. And we use a formula that makes sure the schools with the most need get the most money.
