Over the weekend we received the Dry Dock Wine and Spirits Newsletter. They share in this publication information on their tastings, deals, and neighborhood events. This one particular section stood out when we read on Sunday and we wanted to share it with all of you. They are asking for folks to sign a petition to rename part of Van Brunt Street after Sue Amendola, a longtime Red Hook resident and community member. Read below to learn more about Sue and how to make this happen!
Sue Amendola, who passed away suddenly in late 2017, was a big part of the heart and soul of the Red Hook Community for more than 70 years. Sue was an active supporter of many Red Hook groups, including VFW NY Post 5195, Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, and the Red Hook Civic Association. She was for all of us, our friend, neighbor and support system from the moment that many of us landed in the hook. We have many fond memories of Sue including the annual cat-nativity scene she erected with her sister on the vacant lot beside her home as documented at DNA. The Red Hook Civic Association would like to honor by renaming Van Brunt Street between King and Sullivan Streets, as Sue Amendola Way. Sue was Red Hook. She made a huge difference in this community and is greatly missed.Help us honor her by signing this petition at Change.org
