RealTours: A Day in Red Hook with Tina Fallon
Nov 24, 2015
Tina Fallon resides in Red Hook with her husband and two daughters. She loves her neighborhood and, like others who have written about Red Hook on our blog, she had a very hard time choosing between all the delicious food options!
Morning: I like a dark roast coffee, which is hard to come by in the Stumptown era. I usually make coffee at home, or grab a cup at Fairway.
Noon: The Home/Made pop up brunch at the Atelier Roquette is the best. Their french toast is a marvel. So often brunch is just a long, expensive wait for food you could make better at home, but their food is magical. And the room couldn’t be prettier: white brick, skylights, wood, steel and soft sofa seating. A perfect Red Hook combo. For lunch or a quicker bite on a weekend day I love to hit Defontes or Court Street Grocers for a sandwich.
Afternoon: Red Hook is full of cute little boutique shops and Foxy and Winston is my go-to shop. I have two kids, and they always find unique gifts for their friends there. Letterpress cards, hand knit socks, soaps and candles – something for all ages. Plus Jane Buck, the owner, is super charming. Her sweet beagle is always there to greet you, too.
Evening: There are too many awesome restaurants in the neighborhood! I can’t pick just one. We love The Good Fork for date nights, but when the whole family is together we will hit Fort Defiance (the kids love the gingerade). Hometown for barbecue or big groups, and Chiang Mai for takeout. Also, once a week we order delivery from House of Pizza and Calzones. The deep fried calzone are the best.
After Dark: I love a late night walk by the water at Valentino Pier. But for live music and great company, you have to go to Sunny’s.
Hidden Gem: It’s not truly hidden, but every Cora Dance event is worth attending. From Red Hook Prom to Common Dances, Cora events are always inclusive, with people of all ages from every corner of the neighborhood. And they are always a blast!
