Old Becomes New on Court Street

Marietta’s dress shop, which had been located at 392 Court Street in Carroll Gardens, had been a neighborhood staple.  It originally opened in the 1940’s! The original owner, Maria Chirico, passed away in the 1950’s and her sons took over from there.  Now both brothers have passed and the place closed it’s doors.  The residents of this area lost both lovely neighbors and an adorable little storefront that was a part of the neighborhood’s history.

Passing by the other day we noticed a new tenant moved into the space.  UBREAKIFIX is a store that fixes smart phones.  How ironic that a space which housed a decades-old dress shop would become a futuristic tech fix-it shop. Sigh.   You can read more about Marietta’s in this DNAinfo New York blog.
