Ideas for This Weekend!

Many of you will be driving or flying away from the city today but, for those of us staying, there is so much to do!  Free shows, movies, the beach!  How can we squeeze it all in? We’ve got our favorites picked out:

-Kick off the weekend with a free Afro-Caribbean Garth Fagan Dance performance at Celebrate Brooklyn.  Gates at 7pm and show starts at 8pm.

-It looks like it’s going to be in the mid-eighties all weekend.  Perfect beach weather!  If you’d rather be in a dark air-conditioned theater, however, there are a couple of interesting film series going on at The Quad and Metrograph, both relatively new cinema houses.  The Concert Film, highlighting performances from Willie Nelson to Jimmy Hendrix is a great one for music lovers. Simply Streisand is a series of films starring Babs.

-It would be a shame to let 4th of July weekend go by with out attending a baseball game.  The Cyclones play the Connecticut Tigers Saturday night.  You can head over after you leave the beach!

-Spending Tuesday the 4th BBQing with friends or family is a must.  Don’t have a yard? Prospect Park has spots where you can fire up a grill and either grab a table or lay down a blanket! To see the fireworks you’ll need to head to Greenpoint/Williamsburg, LIC or the city.

Have a wonderful 4th everyone! Stay cool and safe!
