Hope and Anchor Closing Shop.

We were browsing Facebook yesterday and saw this message (also below) posted the day before from one of our favorite Red Hook establishments, Hope and Anchor. We remember many a night grabbing a bite, having a drink or singing our hearts out at Karaoke here and are so sad to see that they’ll be closing in less than two months time.  They have been a Red Hook staple for a decade and a half! Definitely stop by, dine, have a drink, and say farewell before the end of February.

To Our Valued Customers and Friends,

After 15 years of being a staple of Red Hook, it breaks our heart to announce that end of February, Hope & Anchor will close its doors. Real estate is a fickle thing, we have tried every option to stay and serve the good people of Red Hook, Brooklyn and beyond, as long as we could. When it comes down to it our lease is up, and we are not able to renew it.

We are fortunate to have been one of the first restaurants on Van Brunt in 2002. Like most NY neighborhoods, we have witnessed the changes and growth of Red Hook. After Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast, we saw what it really means to be part of a community. We were so lucky to have power, serve hot food and be a warm resting place for our neighbors in need. That is what kept us going for so long, serving the community.

We would not have been around for so long if it wasn’t for our amazing customers. You ate with us, drank with us, jammed with us, and of course, sang with us. That’s what we’ll miss the most, the extended family that this space has created.

Of course, there would be no Hope & Anchor if it wasn’t for the most dedicated, selfless, hardworking staff in the business. Not just our current staff, but every single person who has been behind that bar, or in front of that mic, you made H&A so magical. It’s very difficult to put into words what I’m feeling, this really is the end of an era. We wish everyone the best of luck in the future. We are so lucky to have been in this time, in this neighborhood with these people.

Thank you so very much for your patronage
All the best,

Pete Ascolese
And the whole Hope & Anchor team
