Gender Gaps in the Real Estate World for Women as Home Buyers

Single women make up at least 15 percent of home buyers, making them the second largest group of buyers in the U.S. real estate market. The largest being married couples.  Also, statistically speaking, single women are likely to default less on their mortgages and tend to make larger down payments; in spite of their lower incomes. However, a study conducted by the Urban Institute concluded single women are paying more for their mortgages than their counterparts. This isn’t too surprising based on knowledge of other issues around gender gaps in the US (it has also been proven that woman pay more for cars at dealerships) but seeing the math really hits a nerve.  What can we do to help close the gender gap? The first step is to be aware that it exists. Please share this on your social media!
