Brooklyn Weekend Tripper: Echo Lake

Echo Lake is a little under 3 hours away without traffic in the New York Catskills. Specifically it’s in the Indian Head Wilderness Park and a trail, which takes about one hour and a half to hike, takes you from the parking area to the lake itself. The body isn’t good for swimming and many describe it more as a pond than a lake but it’s a breathtaking setting none the less and definitely worth the hike. There is a gorgeous look-out on your way from one direction and an old abandoned hotel and fire tower if you hike down from another. We visited on labor day weekend and camped the night. Though crowded, we were still able to find a spot with a fire pit and perfect area for setting up a tent that was far enough from other campers. The feeling of seclusion isn’t hard to come by in this spot. We have a couple months left of comfortable camping before it gets too cold. View our pics and get inspired!
