A Day Trip to Queens.

We’ve blogged in the past about day trips out of Brooklyn to places like the Hudson Valley or some beachy areas in the summer months but what about about Kings County’s sister Borough.  Here are a few of our favorite things to do in Queens!

1. Visit Forest Hills- Pure Wow featured a blog titled the 9 Most Beautiful Streets in New York. Now we must mention that 3 of those streets were in Brooklyn (go us!!) but one was in Queens and it’s Greenway Terrace in Forest Hills (pictured above).  The whole area beyond the tunnel you see in that photograph is so quaint and serene.  Tudor homes with lovely gardens and quiet tree lined streets.  Definitely worth a stroll or bike ride around.  Afterwards you can stop by Eddie’s Sweet Shop for a real old time Soda Fountain experience.

2. Queens County Farm-You don’t have to go far to have a fall farm experience with a maize maze and a pumpkin patch. You can check out all of their fall events, including a children’s festival and haunted house, here.

3. Flushing is our favorite!- Now Brooklyn has a Chinatown of it’s own in the Sunset park neighborhood but this Queens area boasts the largest Chinatown in New York. There are so many delicious places to eat but this serious eats spotlight on Flushing is a great guide.  Other things to do in the area include visiting Flushing Meadow Park and Flushing Town Hall, which hosts concerts and other unique events like the WNYC sponsored storytelling event The Moth.  A great ice cream place to visit in this area is Max and Mina’s (photo below).  They have an extensive list of one of a kind flavors.  Some are a little odd, like hot cheese doodle, but most are just indulgent and delicious.

So, plan a day trip of your own and explore our neighbor to the north!
