10 Ways To Give Back: Realty Collective Celebrates the Work of CUFFH

As part of our celebration of the holidays  — and as a thank you to the larger community that supports us all year long — Realty Collective is proud to feature the work of key non-profit organizations making the borough (and beyond) better every day. We’ve selected 10 non-profits to highlight and we encourage everyone to learn a bit about their respective missions and, if possible, to join us in making a small monetary donation to further their work. We thank them for everything they do and thank you for supporting a small, woman-owned Brooklyn business for nearly 20 years.

There’s very little that gets done in New York City without grassroots advocacy and organizing, which is why we’re so thrilled to highlight and support the work of Churches United for Fair Housing. The fight for fair housing is a cause important to those of us who work at Realty Collective because we believe strongly that housing is a human right, and the work of CUFFH certainly upholds this.

As CUFFH explains in its stated values, their work is focused on centering the preservation and creation of vibrant communities that are truly for all, meaning they are affordable and inclusive. This grassroots advocacy organization, deeply rooted in faith and focused on community spaces, has become a beacon of hope for working-class BIPOC communities, providing not only affordable housing services but also integrated social resources that address a myriad of pressing issues.

At the core of CUFFH’s mission is the commitment to organizing communities around the fundamental principles of housing, immigration, social, and economic justice. Each week, the organization opens its doors to the public, hosting free community workshops at member churches. These workshops not only provide valuable affordable housing services but also encompass a range of multi-issue relevant resources, fostering a holistic approach to community empowerment.

As its website further explains, CUFFH takes a powerful stance against systems of oppression, including racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia — and commits to challenging these forces on both personal and organizational levels. The organization recognizes the role that individual and collective powers and privileges play in upholding these systems, promising continuous and concerted efforts to dismantle them.

If you’d like to join us in making a small donation to support their work, you can do so here. And if you’d like to take a greater role, the organization is very interested in talking with you. Find out how you can get involved here.
