LIEN SALE Help Night by Ronica Webb

On Tuesday, April 26, 2016, NYC Council Member (36th District) Robert E. Corrnegy, Jr, will be hosting a Lien Sale Help Night. The event will be held at the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation at 1368 Fulton Street at 5:00 PM-to 8:00 PM. Property owners in need of assistance will be able to meet with the Dept. of Finance, HPD, Dept. of Environmental Protection (water bills) and the Office of Robert Cornegy Jr.

The lien sale list is available now and circulating and many people don’t even know they are on the list. Liens can be sold to a third party for payment. This also includes interest on the debt.  May 11, 2016 is the last day to pay and get off the list.

Here are some useful resources regarding liens and ways to pay down the debt.

1. Senior citizens, disabled homeowners, clergy and military can complete and exemption eligibility form and mail it to the Dept. of Finance. Call (212) 440-5407 today!

2. Visit the Dept. of Finance’s Business Center and work with a staff member to get off the lien sale list. The Brooklyn Business Center is located in the Brooklyn Municipal Center at 210 Joralemon Street, Downtown Brooklyn.

3. Attend the Lien Sale Help Night on Tuesday, April 26th.

4. Don’t be ashamed. Ask for help. You can avoid the lien sale by paying down your debt, entering into a no-money down, 10 year payment plan or apply for an exemption.
