Shyda lives in Crowne Heights but often works out of our Columbia Waterfront office at 223 Columbia. She knows and loves this area and wanted to share her favorites.
Brunch Spot– Mazzat always has something fresh on the menu and their Mediterranean Omelet is always spot on! They have the most diverse options for vegetarians, vegans and carnivores. There is always something new to try!
Daytime Activity– I love riding my bike down the Brooklyn Greenway which runs along Columbia Street towards Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 6 and beyond. I may also stop into the Brooklyn Herborium to pick up a new potion. Emma is a walking encyclopedia for herbs and she is there most days to point you in the right direction. I then head to Freebird Books to pick up a good read!
Dinner Spot– Pok Pok is my definite dinner spot choice! You can’t miss with the menu and I highly recommend the Khao Soi Kai/Jay and the Fish Sauce Wings. It is truly a foodie destination for New Yorkers everywhere and is not to be missed!
Nighttime Activity– Going to the Jalopy Theatre to hear Live Music is such a rich experience. The husband/ wife owners, Geoff and Lynette Wiley opened the theatre in 2006 and their mission is to cultivate a community around “shared appreciation of traditional roots music.” They also hold classes for both kids and adults and lead workshops. This is truly a spot not to be missed.
Hidden Gem– The Brooklyn Collective, which will be featured in Harper’s “INSIDER BROOKLYN” is not as hidden as it was years ago but it’s still a gem! You will be able to find the most unique gifts for anyone. From their website their mission states, “Brooklyn Collective was established in response to the need for a space where craftsmen can showcase their work free from the pressures of mass-market retail. Through a cooperative effort, the collective seeks to push the boundaries of art and design, offering the public a unique view into what designers are capable of when given creative freedom.” I think the owners said it better than I ever could!
