Compére Collective Presents: Second Nature feat. Kim Loewe & Susan Rowland

We are so excited to present April’s exhibit at Compére Collective, Second Nature featuring Kim Loewe & Susan Rowland! Make sure you stop by their Opening Reception on Friday, April 7 from 6pm-8pm to meet the artists and mingle. Learn more about the show below!

Please join us to celebrate the opening of “Second Nature,” an exhibition of drawings, prints and ceramics by Susan Rowland and Kim Loewe.

When Kim Loewe met Susan Rowland, both artists were at a turning point. For Loewe, that meant a shift from printmaking into ceramics and drawing; Rowland, the opposite. For each artist, the transition represented a deepening connection to the natural world. While Rowland’s later work was among her most figurative and literal – she was printing actual plants – Loewe’s embrace of nature is more abstract. Loewe’s forms, in both drawing and sculpture, evoke bear claws, a coral reef, a mudslide, without ever slipping into representation.

As Rowland, discussing her Brooklyn roof garden, told the New York Times, “I look for risk. And for people who design on their own, who don’t do what everybody else has done. And randomness. You have to let the surprises happen.” Second Nature is Loewe and Rowland’s first exhibition together. This intimate collection reminds us that together, Loewe and Rowland continue to surprise.
