Recently closed establishments in Cobble Hill.

We normally blog about new openings in the neighborhood but have noticed a lot of places closed in the Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens area and thought we should share. With the New Year coming there is always hope for new opportunities but sometimes there is also a sadness for saying farewell to a year that may or may not have treated us kindly.  Similarly, it’s extremely sad to see some of these places go while some, although also sad in many ways, could use a freshening up.  American Beer Distributors, at 256 Court Street, is one of those places that made us wince and ask “why????” when we first heard about their closing.  The Nut Box, though a bit pricey, was a little gem on Smith Street that has shuttered it’s windows.  Jarro, shown above at 68 Bergen, was open very briefly.  A lot of people were sad to see Ceol, the only Irish bar in the area, close up.  Also closed are Coco Roco, Apartment 138, Lola’s and Van Horn.  When new places open up in these spots we’ll let you know.  But for now, we’re just going to take this moment to say goodbye.
