Victoria Alexander Featured in We Rule on Lessons Learned Building Realty Collective

I was recently featured in a piece by We Rule sharing advice for female founders navigating the realities of building a business.

One of the questions that resonated most with me was: What do you wish you knew when you started?

My answer was simple, but hard-earned:

“Staying small isn’t failure. I scaled up to four offices, and then I had to make the painful call to consolidate back down to one. At the time, it felt like going backwards, but I learned I’d rather be smaller and right than bigger and compromised.”

We also talked about the importance of building strong systems early — something I resisted for years because I worried it would make the business feel too corporate.

In reality, I learned the opposite:

“Build the bones before trying to grow. I thought systems would make the work feel corporate, but they’re what let me stay small and intentional without burning out.”

If you’ve ever wrestled with growth, sustainability, or trying to build a business that reflects your actual values, I think you’ll relate to this conversation.
