Victoria Alexander Featured in Dreamers & Doers: From Art History to Real Estate

I was recently featured in Leading Visibly, the Dreamers & Doers magazine, on how a would-be art gallerist ended up running a Brooklyn brokerage and why that detour turned out to be what made it all make sense.
The plan was art history. Pace, galleries, a life spent around beautiful objects. Then real estate clicked, because it held everything I actually loved: history, architecture, community, and Brooklyn. Instead of admiring things on gallery walls, I got to be inside 19th-century brownstones while people made the biggest decisions of their lives, and still admire pretty things on gallery walls when I want.
The piece gets into the parts of the story I don’t always tell, like the carnival barker and ‘zine years, founding Realty Collective at 24, scaling up to four offices and then making the humbling call to come back down to one.
Here’s the line I’d stand behind twenty years later:
“I’d rather be smaller and right than bigger and compromised.”
Growth for its own sake is a trap. The brokerage we have now is intentional: we know our neighborhoods, we turn down business that doesn’t align with our values, and we’ve built something a transaction-volume metric can’t measure.
