RealTours: A Day in Fort Greene with Shyda Hoque

Ft. Greene is a microcosm of how the world is. I can see why so many creative souls from Walt Whitman and Gwendolyn B. Bennett to Spike Lee and Amitav Ghosh? have made this neighborhood their home. Ft. Greene was one of my favorite neighborhoods to live in. I loved the people, architecture, cultural places and parks. When I moved a few stops away I made sure to stay close to Ft. Greene. I still go by the neighborhood to meet up with friends and here are some of my favorite spots I usually hit!
Favorite Coffee Spot- Baba Cool is right next to the G Stop in what used to be a bike shop. The owner and staff are so welcoming and remember your name. They have a great selection of coffee drinks as well as breakfast sandwiches and pastries?. http://www.babacoolbrooklyn.com/menu.html
Brunch Spot- Olea http://www.oleabrooklyn.com/ This is the best place to people watch if you can grab a seat outside in warmer months. It is nice and cozy inside for the winter. It’s a Mediterranean restaurant and feels that you in another world!Daytime Activity- You can find me at the Ft. Greene Farmers Market any Saturday of the year and then walking around Ft. Greene Park. In the winter, I usually go to Greenlight Books and browse around. In the Spring, I go walk around the Brooklyn Flea at the corner of LaFayette and Vanderbilt.Dinner Spot- I can’t choose just one! The General Greene is a great place to get tapas as all the plates are small and great for family sharing at anytime of the year. In the Summer, Habana Outpost is the place to go and on Sunday nights in the summer they screen movies.Nighttime Activity- Going to a play or film at BAM. Then going out to The Annex afterwards to discuss the show. 🙂 http://www.greenegrape.com/annex/Hidden Gem- I just learned this a few months ago that there is a Hungry Ghost at the BRIC Arts Media House. http://www.bricartsmedia.org/ It’s a great space to meet people. Also, you can go check out a performance or art exhibit at BRIC!
