Summer Events by Ronica Webb

It’s officially summer and I have decided to take advantage of all the FREE soiree’s happening in NYC. I started off with getting a free helmets from Bike Smart! and signing up for free bike safety lessons and cycling classes for my kids. Learn to Ride and NYC Parks will be holding several events throughout the city. All you need is a bike and courage. Go to www.bike.nyc for more information. For more information on free helmet distributions go to www.nyc.gov or call 311 and ask for the Bike Smart! events.

Want to watch a movie in the park? Movies Under the Stars and City Parks Foundation has a complete list of free outdoor movies for Summer 2016. Some of the parks include, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Saratoga Park and many more. I would suggest you bring a blanket, snacks and your imagination.

Free concerts anyone? Why not grab your friends and take advantage of the free music concerts happening in all 5 boroughs. SummerStage is celebrating 16 years of free concerts and events in NYC. This is the perfect place to bring your squad or your kids to enjoy some of your favorite singers, groups, and even the Metropolitan Opera. I saw Public Enemy at Betsy Head Park in Brooklyn this June and had a great time! It’s wonderful that SummerStage is hosting these events throughout the summer, ending in September. There is plenty of time to check out their 115 + calendar of events. Go to www.summerstage.org for a full list of events and park locations. Enjoy!
