RealTours: A Day in Red Hook and Carroll Gardens with Amy Mazziotti.

Amy Mazziotti, who currently resides in Staten Island, was a resident of both Fort Greene and Red Hook for many years before moving and since she works in the hood she’s still able to visit her favorite restaurants and boutiques.  Here’s what she has to say about Brooklyn and her top picks.

A lot has changed but you can still be “old school”, like me, or enjoy what’s trendy and chic.  Brooklyn has the best of both worlds!

Morning: My favorite place to get coffee is Mazzola Bakery.  This place is a neighborhood staple and has a wonderful variety of baked goods both sweet and savory!

Daytime: During the warm weather months I love visiting the park and piers around Ikea.  It’s a lot larger than you might think so it’s great if you feel the “need” for space.  It’s also a lot of fun for kids, to walk your dog, or to just get a blast of fresh Atlantic Ocean air!

Dinner: I love Mazzat on Columbia Street.  The owner, Jimmy, still cooks and prepares all of the absolutely delectable things to eat on the Mediterranean/Middle Eastern style menu.  There’s also a big bar and an easygoing vibe for an after work or evening cocktail.

After Dark: There is always someone friendly to talk to at Rocky Sullivans. They also have trivia on Thursdays and it’s a great place to watch a game.

Hidden Gem: This place is well known around Red Hook but outsiders may not know of it. Dry Dock Wine + Spirits at 424 Van Brunt is a boutique wine and spirit shop with friendly, expertise service.  You won’t leave empty handed!
