Let’s Get On The Bus by Shyda Hoque

One of the highlights of my summer was going with a group of friends and founders, Sonya Farrell and Martin Brewer of letsgetonthebus.org, to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C.

The mission from the website is to “create and fund enriching field trips for under-served youth.  These day trips, guided by community leaders and educators, will enlighten, educate and empower- a path to racial justice for all.”

Sonya and Martin spoke of how moved they were by visiting the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture this past January and felt motivated to bring every young mind who might not have the opportunity to experience this life changing museum.  I will continue to support this non profit as they take many safe trips down to the museum from New York City.

Now more than ever is the most important time to visit this museum that is an experience with of over 36,000 artifacts on display.

I do hope that every American can come to visit and especially those who might not have all the resources to make it to D.C.  I think this is a phenomenal cause and am so grateful for Sonya and Martin for giving youth the ability to go see the museum in one day.
